Why Do People Start A Side Business?

Do you feel that all your hard work is not paying off? Have you experienced having to loan from a family member or friends just so you can keep up with your monthly mortgage? If you said yes to these two questions, what do you think you can do to free your mind from all the worries?

Creating your own business is said to be the best solution for earning more than you can imagine and having control of your own time. However, not everyone who dreams of having their own business may have enough capital. So, they either find someone who can help them start or just go with what they have.

Reasons Why People Start a Business

If you are an entrepreneur, what has pushed you to become one? How were you earning before you started to have your own business?

If you ask most people why they want to start a business, the answer would be unanimous. Obviously, to have more money. And it is a valid reason. Why would you even involve yourself with something if it won’t give you anything of (monetary) value right? However, asking a few people about what has made them decide to start a business, here are their answers:

  1. Some people are born with such creative minds that they want to know if what they have done is something that others can benefit from. And doing so would entail a lot of work in which earning from it would entail an additional income stream. He may feel that he has a unique way of running the business successfully because he gets involved with different aspects of the company’s operation. Wearing various hats doesn’t scare them, but rather a challenge they are willing to take.
  2. Some people may no longer feel happy with their current employment and realize that working for others does not help them reach their goals. They may no longer want to be

forever among those who feel like robots going in and out of the office building. It is their way of spreading their wings and wanting to try something new.

  1. Being in charge or being the boss makes a person feel that he can conquer everything and make things happen since he is involved with the day-to-day operations.
  2. People are driven to start their own business out of necessity. Obviously, life is not getting easier, no matter how to tight your belt. Primary commodities continue to soar, and everything else follows. Having a family of 4 is difficult enough to sustain, mainly when you send your children to exclusive schools. And we know that a large majority of students previously enrolled in premier schools have transferred to public schools because of a lack of financial resources to support their education. Not that we belittle public school teachings, but we all know that when employers look at applicants’ transcripts, they are more inclined to choose those from popular schools.
  3. Among other things, some entrepreneurs just want to taste the feeling of accomplishment. Knowing that a small business you once built has become a household name is a different feeling. And it takes a lot of patience and perseverance to be able to reach your goal.

The need to have various income streams is very much recommended by financial advisers. Mainly because there are many opportunities to earn more than what you make now. No matter how many millions you may earn in a month, using your money unwisely could just go up in smoke in the blink of an eye. Remember that there are people who are just watching your every move. And some are just waiting for you to fall. So, as the saying goes, “never put all your eggs in one basket.” Be vigilant in checking out what kind of people you are dealing with. Spread out your resources, but make sure that there is some amount in return.

Various Streams of Income

Aside from having your own business, you can also use your extra funds for great investments. I mean, not a financial expert. But I realize that opportunities are out there waiting to be discovered and can serve as a good source of income, especially when you reach retirement.

I have mentioned in my articles before about where people should invest their money. Quoting Wikipedia’s definition, “an investment is asset bought or money that is put into a bank to get a future interest from it.” You may choose from the following:

  1. Real Estate Property
  2. High-Interest Savings Account
  3. Stocks
  4. Business

Most people fear the word “investment,” thinking that this is only for rich people. But, when you really think about it, we all need to set aside a portion of our monthly earnings to have something that we can enjoy when we grow older. This is one of the reasons why some millennial entrepreneurs are really dragging their way to become successful at a young age. They want to retire early and live the rest of their lives happy and stress-free.

Would you now consider having a side business while being employed? I think that is truly a great idea! Imagine if many people would be having this kind of thinking. The rising prices of commodities would not scare them that much, plus they get to secure their future, too.
