The other day a friend called me to convey that his father unexpected had a heart failure. As the eldest he was expected to take over and continue the business operations. However no guidelines were written by his father.
It can be difficult to take over a business without clear guidelines, but there are steps your friend can take to ensure a smooth transition. One thing he should do is consult with a lawyer to understand his legal rights and responsibilities as the new business owner. He should also gather all of the financial and operational information about the business, such as financial statements, contracts, and employee information. Additionally, he should try to communicate with key stakeholders, such as employees, customers, and suppliers, to let them know what is happening and to get their input and support. It’s also important to have a plan in place, whether it’s to continue the existing business or to make changes, and to keep in mind that it may take time for things to settle down.
