I am thankful that more Filipinos have received their vaccines, some of which have started getting their booster doses. It means that we have added protection from the virus, which allows us to increase our mobility but still adhere to safety protocols, of course. With that said, with the increase in vaccination rates, entrepreneurs are more confident of returning to some level of normalcy. But of course, we cannot expect that everything would just get back to how things were, and the routines we have gotten used to may need changing.
Reopening of businesses not only means having to get out of our homes but is our way of helping the country’s economy as well. And given the situation, extreme measures across all businesses be implemented.
Entrepreneurs should prioritize the health and safety of each of their employees. It means that business owners should be able to provide flexible sick leave, allowing employees to work remotely and provide a standard of wellness for the entire company. Remember that the success of any business also relies on the ability of its employees to perform productively. And allowing these minor adjustments will make the employees feel valued for their health and well-being.
Encourage all employees to be fully vaccinated in order not only to keep themselves healthy but as well as their co-employees. Continue to adhere to safety protocols such as physical distancing, limiting the number of people in a room at a given time, regular disinfection and deep cleaning of the office, and regular testing of the employees. It may mean additional costs. However, the company must maintain a safe environment for employees, clients, and suppliers.
Check on those small tasks done, so there is also a limited number of people in the office.
Provide flexible working arrangements. Working from home is not new to us. It has been apparent for the past ten years. However, foreign clients gave most of these jobs; we can adapt to a similar culture that effectively keeps everyone safe.
Employees need to feel that they are safe in their workplace. Therefore, they need to listen to what they would want to suggest to help them become confident in getting back to work and becoming productive.
It should be of primary concern of any company about how each employee feels about getting back to work. The HR may step in by providing an individualized plan on how each employee easily adapts to the “new normal,” considering they need to report back to work. The mental state of each employee may not be the same, particularly those who have been affected by the pandemic. Thus, it is essential to assess each employee’s capabilities. Give a strategized plan on starting work again, and make each employee realize that the changes may seem huge. Still, it would be for the best of everyone.
Without the customers, any business will fail. Hence, it is also essential to talk to your customers and hear what they suggest, which may help you reopen your business. Weigh out everything you hear from them and choose which plausible and adaptable ones. You may have made a new plan on operating the company, but you may have missed a few points.
Before reopening, it may be suitable to host a seminar to refresh their minds about the company policies and changes they should expect. Ensure that everything is clear to them to continue working as a team.
