To be successful as an entrepreneur takes more than learning about the business. It is also like selling yourself in a way, that you must uphold a brand that people would instantly want to connect to and that you are able to attract a number of people that will strongly believe more than on what you are selling, but most especially building a strong foundation of trust.
To stay in the business, TRUST is important. You cannot climb your way up to success alone. You, your employees and your customers should all be part of reaching your goal. It is not like trying to be the center of everything. But more than anything else, the way you represent yourself says a lot.
Entrepreneurs deal with so many challenges. And they don’t just take one hat at that. One should be able to understand every aspect of the business thus, understanding the body language for different people in the company like those for marketing, for managers, for human resource personnel, etc. In short, you need to be the “Jack of All Trades”. An entrepreneur does not only refer to those working with big companies. Professionals like consultants, freelancers and salesman are all
considered as entrepreneurs because they are building their name through their profession, through their business.
Entrepreneur Body Language
Here are a few tips on how an entrepreneur can help himself get higher returns and increase his connection to sustain his business:
TIP #1 Build trust among the people around you. When you are involved in a business, you don’t just let things fall into place and pray hard that everything will be alright. You need to do your share in presenting yourself in a way that people would feel that you are someone that they can trust.
When talking to people, you need to face directly to the other person while maintain eye contact. It is a no-no to be looking beyond the person you are talking to. Whatever you are telling to the other person may not be understood the way you want it to be understood.
Nodding assures the other person that you are interested to what he is saying. It is nonverbal sign informing the other that you are engaged with the conversation and not just nodding for the sake of having to give a sign that you are intently listening. The other person may not truly know what is running through your head, but if you want your brand to be known in a positive way, make all efforts to become a good entrepreneur. After all, you will greatly benefit from being a good one.
Tip #2 Think before you speak. In any kind of conversation, we have a responsibility to be careful with the words that we choose. It is also important to utter words in a way that the other person can fully understand. You wouldn’t want to have a ‘guessing game’ for a conversation, right?
When communicating with people, you want people to understand you. What you say is important. To point out something important, hand gestures can help the other person remember and comprehend what you have said.
Repeated hand gestures, when trying to point out something important will truly stick to the minds of the people that you are speaking with. Remember, more than the verbal content, simple nonverbal signs can leave a mark among the people you are speaking with.
Tip #3 Be critical but not too feisty. What has been your experience when you had your job interview? The way the interviewer (YOU) and interviewee position themselves during the conversation can affect the quality of conversation. You may not realize but when an interviewer sits directly to the interviewee, it may make the interviewee feel intimidated thus, no matter how qualified an applicant may be based on his work experience, an applicant may not feel confident enough to answer the questions being asked to him. Use ANGLE SEATING instead. This is less threatening and makes the interviewee more relaxed.
It is also recommended to conduct the interview in an open space or using a glass table so that you are able to see any odd shifts or jiggling feet when you ask difficult questions. This could serve as your guide in assessing the interviewee.
Tip #4 Be in control and powerful. When negotiating, you body language will strongly affect the perception of how powerful you are. You need to have a confidence in yourself that you can properly carry out your intentions.
Always STAND TALL and STRAIGHT. It exerts a positive aura/vibe. Steepling connotes a gesture of CONFIDENCE and even superiority.
When seated, make sure that you sit high. Slouching may mean being uninterested, boastful and not reassuring. And again, talking to others, the seats should be placed in a slant position (angled) rather than directly opposing one another.
When negotiating and seated on a sofa, instead of leaning your back towards the sofa, seat on the edge while your hand is rested on the arm rest.
Tip#5 Be the boss, yet be among your employees. One of the “diamonds” of a company is having loyal employees. And how do we make our employees become loyal to company is by allowing them to do what is expected of them and have a voice if they feel they have to share some insights about the company. As a boss, you can only win the hearts of your employees if you make them feel that they can always talk to you. Always have a positive attitude. Come to work with a SMILE.
Your staff will have a negative feeling towards you if you always talk to them with crossed arms and clenched fists. These gestures are sure ways of not making your employees feel comfortable at work. Remember that your company’s growth would also depend on your relationship with your employees.
