Don’t Just Dream….Make It A Reality

Starting a business can be daunting, most especially if you just act on it on a whim because you saw others doing it. Doing something you have always wanted is essential because it is easier to make things happen when your heart is in it, just like rearing a child. Building a business needs nurturing. You can leave it to work on its own once you have created the store and started operating the business.

I have met so many aspiring entrepreneurs from the numerous talks I have attended. I saw all in them that they all want to be more than who they are at that point. The energy was high. Numerous questions were asked, showing how enthusiastic they were. But I wonder how many of them genuinely followed their heart…..

Of all the startups, about 90% fail during the first year. Why? This is because not all of them may have planned out how to manage the business well. And as I said, to become successful in any kind of business, one should never cease to learn new things. It is essential to be current and understand what the market demands.

Characteristics of a Successful Startup

Although I would often say that there is no right time to start a business than today, still, one should have both eyes wide open to see what he is getting himself into. You cannot just jump into something because you think you are ready. So, here are some things that you should learn to make your startup story a success story.

  1. Make sure that you choose a product that the market wants. Indeed, offering a unique product will stand out. However, it should answer a problem that the market needs. Suppose you offer a product that nobody wants and only you can understand its importance. In that case, likely, you will never even last a month. If you are spending time to think of the product to offer, make sure that it is something that the market would be willing to use and need.
  2. Never overlook the business process. Remember that entrepreneurs should work on their businesses. It may seem easy to some, but some procedures need to be followed to succeed. Taking calls, replying, or sending emails is not enough to roll the business. There is a lot of work that needs to be done. Thus, the people in the business should be aware of their individual roles for business continuity.
  3. Never be afraid to grow fast. One significant sign is that rapid growth means that you are highly in demand. Scary? I guess it may be for others. But we know that you are not an entrepreneur if you are not a risk-taker. However, the risks should be calculated risks, meaning you don’t have to exaggerate your plans towards expanding the business. Learn how the transition can be safely done, and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Just don’t be blinded by your success. Otherwise, you will just waste all your time and resources.
  4. Embrace versatility. Versatility does not only refer to the team’s skillsets you are working with. This also refers to how quickly your team can develop new products. That will let your brand stand out, create new marketing strategies, rebrand business, etc. Building a solid team makes it less scary to face all those challenges. This also goes with having co-founders since you can share equal responsibilities and accountability.

Just imagine how many businesses bloomed during last year’s pandemic scare. Most of them just wanted to earn something to help their family, even if it meant sacrificing a little. But, just by checking some social media platforms, you would see how many Pinoy have embraced creating an online business and making it successful. If they can do it, I am sure you can, too. It only takes a little faith in yourself and in our Almighty.
